Care & Use Guide

Everything you need to know to get the most from your Cupitta — rooted in thousands of years of Ayurvedic tradition.

The Cupitta — copper-lined wood water bottle

The Bottle

A Unique Fusion of Materials

The Cupitta combines two distinct yet complementary materials: a natural wood exterior and a copper-lined interior. The wood exudes warmth and organic character, while the copper interior draws on centuries of Ayurvedic wellness tradition. Together they make a bottle that is as intentional as it is beautiful.

Because the wood grain is natural, no two Cupittas look exactly alike — each one has its own character.

Ayurvedic Tradition

Rooted in Ancient Practice

The Cupitta is not a temperature-retention bottle. It is a copper vessel rooted in thousands of years of Ayurvedic practice — and the benefit is about time, not temperature.

When plain water is stored in a copper vessel for 6 to 8 hours, it absorbs trace amounts of copper. This process — known as "copper-charged water" — is what Ayurvedic tradition has long used to support digestion, immunity, and overall wellness. It works best at room temperature.

How to Use Your Cupitta

Fill with plain water at room temperature. Let it sit for at least 6 to 8 hours — overnight works well. Drink the copper-charged water within one use session, whether that's at home, at your desk, at a class, or wherever the day takes you. One fill, one session per day. The Cupitta is not designed to be refilled and sipped from all day like a regular water bottle.

This one-fill-per-day approach aligns with traditional Ayurvedic practice and keeps copper intake within safe, appropriate levels. The WHO recommends no more than 2mg of copper per liter of water — following this guideline keeps you well within those limits.

Important

Do not use for hot beverages. Heat accelerates copper release and can result in levels that are unsafe to consume. The Cupitta is for room temperature plain water only.

Wellness

The Benefits of Copper

For centuries, copper vessels have been a staple of Ayurvedic wellness. The following benefits are rooted in traditional practice and are widely referenced in holistic health — they are not medical claims, and The Cupitta is not a medical device or treatment.

Improved Digestion

Copper is traditionally believed to support the production of digestive enzymes, helping ease bloating and improve the digestive process.

Immune Support

Copper is recognized for its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Ayurvedic practice has long associated regular use of copper vessels with a more resilient immune system.

Skin Health

Copper-infused water is traditionally believed to support collagen production, which contributes to skin elasticity and a healthy, youthful appearance.

These statements reflect traditional Ayurvedic belief and have not been evaluated by the FDA. The Cupitta is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Individual results vary.

Critical

Plain Water Only

For Plain Water Only

Do not use The Cupitta for juice, coffee, tea, lemon water, protein shakes, or any flavored or acidic beverage. Acidic liquids react with copper and can be harmful. This bottle is designed exclusively for plain drinking water.

Maintenance

Care Instructions

The Cupitta requires a simple but specific routine to keep both the copper interior and wooden exterior in top condition.

Daily Care

Rinse the interior with plain water after each use. Let it air dry completely — upside down — so water does not pool inside.

Weekly Cleaning

Clean the copper interior using a natural acid solution — lemon juice mixed with salt, or tamarind paste mixed with a little water, are the traditional methods. Pour the solution directly into the bottle, then swirl and shake so it coats the entire interior. Let it sit for a few minutes, swirl again, and rinse thoroughly with plain water until no trace of the cleaning agent remains. For routine weekly cleaning, no brush is needed.

For heavier buildup, a soft-bristled bottle brush (long and narrow) can help — but use soft bristles only. Never use anything abrasive, as it will scratch the copper.

Note: Lemon juice is used here as a cleaning agent only and must be fully rinsed out before the bottle is used for drinking water.

What to Avoid

  • Do not use soap or harsh detergents — they strip the copper's natural properties and can leave residue
  • Do not put in the dishwasher
  • Do not store any beverage other than plain water in the bottle
  • Do not use for hot beverages

Wooden Exterior

The wooden outer shell is treated to resist moisture, but keep it dry when not in use to preserve the natural finish. Wipe the outside with a dry cloth as needed.

With this simple routine, your Cupitta will remain beautiful and functional for years.

Our Commitment

Sustainability

The Cupitta is a meaningful alternative to single-use plastic bottles. Both copper and wood are natural materials that, when cared for properly, can last for years — reducing the need for replacement and keeping waste out of landfills. Copper is fully recyclable at end of life.

We are committed to responsible sourcing and are actively evaluating our wood supply chain to ensure it meets sustainable forestry standards. We will share more details as that work develops.
